It is with a heavy heart that I deliver news that Dr. Carrie Phelps, faculty member and department chair in our College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences, passed away on 6 October 2019. Dr. Phelps was a Saybrookian through-and-through, joining the first cohort of Mind-Body Medicine students back in 2009, serving as a first teaching fellow in the MBM program, graduating in 2014, teaching the core coaching curriculum, and taking on the role of department chair of Integrative Wellness Coaching 2016. In addition to all that she brought to the university, she was a truly outstanding human being, bringing light and joy to her community, her family, and her loving husband, Todd.
The university and Dr. Phelps’ colleagues in the College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences have reached out to her family with expressions of support. Additionally, we would like to take this opportunity to announce that effective this month, we are creating the Dr. Carleen Mangels Phelps Integrative Health Sciences Student Scholarship fund designed to support students pursuing masters and doctoral degrees in integrative medicine and health science disciplines. With the blessing of her husband Todd, we will continue Dr. Phelps’ legacy of selfless commitment to the causes that mattered most to her and our larger community.
